I ripped these into strips and glued them down with a UHU glue stick in a shingle-like format. </p><figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="854" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00006-1.jpg?resize=640%2C854&ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-18331" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00006-1.jpg?w=800&ssl=1 800w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00006-1.jpg?resize=600%2C800&ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00006-1.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><p> I used some brown Archival Ink on a stamp with some French writing over the shingles in spots for some added interest.</p><figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-18323" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?w=800&ssl=1 800w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?resize=768%2C768&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?resize=600%2C600&ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/image00002.png?resize=100%2C100&ssl=1 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><p>I next used the <a href="https://www.stencil1.com/product/soft-chains-stencil-11x11/">Soft Chains Stencil</a> and sponged on clear embossing ink from a pad through the design and removed the stencil. Totems of sorts started by collating vintage tickets and ration stamps on a white gesso background over altered book pages. I collaged two tea bags on top of these elements to soften the colors and get some grungy business going. I next used the <a href="https://www.stencil1.com/product/thatched-stencil-11x11/">Thatched Repeat Pattern Stencil (11″x11″)</a> in a cascading vertical layout and sprayed Distress Oxide Spray from Ranger through the cutouts. After heat setting, I used a little bit of white gesso to feather in and create a cascading pattern. </p><figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-16988" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?w=800&ssl=1 800w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?resize=768%2C768&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?resize=600%2C600&ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_07.jpg?resize=100%2C100&ssl=1 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-16982" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?w=800&ssl=1 800w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?resize=768%2C768&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?resize=600%2C600&ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_01.jpg?resize=100%2C100&ssl=1 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?resize=640%2C640&ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-16983" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?w=800&ssl=1 800w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?resize=768%2C768&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?resize=300%2C300&ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?resize=600%2C600&ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_02.jpg?resize=100%2C100&ssl=1 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><p>I next used <a href="https://www.stencil1.com/product/y-repeat-pattern-stencil-8-5%e2%80%b3x11%e2%80%b3/">Y Repeat Pattern Stencil (8.5″x11″)</a> and sponged white gesso through in another cascading V shape starting at the top. This Sugar Skull, <a href="https://www.stencil1.com/product/sugar-skull-2-layer/">Sugar Skull – 2 Layer</a>, I turned it upside down and spread Ranger Texture Crackle Paste through with a palette knife. An important stop using this crackle paste is to let it dry naturally. I then used a series of distress oxide sprays From Ranger (cracked pistachio, fired brick, and mermaid lagoon) to color and highlight the cracks in the sugar skull. I placed that same stencil back on top and sprayed white Sugar spray paint from Ironlak so the pattern could jump out. I next painted a spray ink from Lindy’s Gang, black orchid silver, Is the background of the skull to contrast the features.</p><figure class="wp-block-image"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="853" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_03.jpg?resize=640%2C853&ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-16984" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_03.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_03.jpg?resize=600%2C800&ssl=1 600w, https://i0.wp.com/www.stencil1.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Day_of_the_Dead_and_DEAD_of_the_Day_03.jpg?w=800&ssl=1 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><p>Two skulls needed two skeletons so I spread Modeling Paste from Golden through the <a href="https://www.stencil1.com/product/skeleton-stencil-small-5-75x6/">Skeleton Stencil -Small (5.75″x6″)</a> onto a thick black matte paper.
