Lululemon has a new campaign running for their men’s line, Strength To Be, which explores the definition of masculinity and strength.
Through short films, they explore how men are challenging stereotypes of this term MASCULINITY. For this how-to, I customized a sleeveless tee with a lotus flower, which many view as a symbol of femininity. It has me pondering not only the definition of masculinity, but also the stereotypes we may apply to icons and colors on our clothing.

Here’s how I customized my shirt with the Stencil1 Lotus 2-Layer Stencil.
Starting with the top stencil, which is the first layer of the stencil, place it on your desired location of the shirt. This is the base shape of the the lotus flower.
With your paint and paint brush, fill in the open spaces of your stencil. Here, we did a shaded effect to give the lotus flower more dimension. You can achieve this effect by removing excess paint on a paper towel or plate, then slow building the color intensity as you reach the edges.
When the first layer is dry, grab the bottom stencil. This is the second layer of the stencil and will the the lotus flower more detail. Place it on top of the first layer and fill it with a different color of paint.
And there you have it!
