Stenciled Gratitude Chalk Board

For those that missed the live Instagram video, here is a post about the steps to create a GRATITUDE CHALKBOARD.

We are in challenging and unprecedented times and it’s easy to focus on the hardships but to balance your life and stay sane, gratitude is key. This DIY, creating a Gratitude Chalkboard, allows you to focus on what you are grateful for!

Here are some things you will need to make your gratitude chalkboard:

  • Chalkboard Paint, we prefer Benjamin Moore
  • A piece of wood, we used 16″ x20″
  • Paintbrush
  • Stencil brush
  • Chalk
  • Eraser
  • White acrylic paint
  • Stencils

Make sayings for your chalkboard using our Letter Stencils or Our Custom Letter Stencil Maker.

Lay the wood down flat on some craft or newspaper.

I recommend using Benjamin Moore’s chalkboard paint.

Start painting with your chalkboard paint, brushing three even coats. You can also use a roller.

Don’t forget the sides of your panel, these will show when you hang your board.

Be sure to cover the entire piece of wood with chalkboard paint. Try to keep your brushstrokes in the same direction.

You can use bottle caps to elevate the board off the paper so it won’t stick to the paper while drying..

Simply place the cap under the piece of wood. Let board dry before stenciling.

Use painters tape and secure the stencil in a centered top position. Use acrylic paint and lightly paint in the saying for a chalky effect.

Let the board dry 24 to 48 hours before you Condition the board with chalk. Prep the chalkboard by holding your chalk sideways, or horizontally, and drag the chalk up and down across your chalkboard. This is done to prevent “ghosting”- when your chalk writing won’t fully erase.

Then erase the chalk to start using your chalkboard. The board will take on a cloudier look.

Now you can remind yourself to be thankful for the important things and people in your life.
