Brace yourself, this is a fancy DIY post! Recently I went to Marrakech, Morocco – a bucket list dream trip – and one place that was just full of unexpected beauty was Jardin Majorelle. It took artist Jacques Majorelle 40 years to create this amazing garden, popping with this stunning blue color now known as Majorelle blue. I purchased some of the powdered pigment in the markets of Marrekech and use it here in this project.
This geometric wood planter is from a much more local place, Target. It’s a part of their Handmade Modern collection and I think it’s such a great canvas, raw and ready for a personal touch.
This is the Majorelle blue pigment. I mixed a bit with a standard matte paint medium until I achieved a gritty yet somewhat watery paint.
Next, I painted the planter with a few coats in a rather sloppy manner, I wanted it to look rich and textured, not too even.
Here it is, how’s that for BLUE!
8 pointed stars seemed appropriate for the Moroccan theme, I used our Row of Stars stencil.
I made a small dot with a yellow pencil to see my center points of each section of the planter and aligned the stencil
design with the dot in the center of the star cutout.
I used a very small stencil brush, great for small designs. Always go light especially with metallic paints, they seem to be thinner than other paints.
A star is born!
I used a different star for the lower panels.

Gotta go buy a little cactus now, bye!
