Using the right painting technique while stenciling can help achieve a beautiful vintage look. Here’s how to stencil a vintage looking sign using Stencil1 stencils.
This wood slat sign is a part of the Handmade Modern collection at Target. It’s perfect for making your vintage sign.
First, choose some beach-y paint colors, we chose colors of ocean and sand for our background and did all the stenciling in white for a clean modern look. With watered down acrylics in both blue and sandy brown, we streaked the paint on with a flat brush. Let the background dry before the next step of stenciling.
We used our Surf 4-pack set and Palm Trees stencil. For an aged look, use very little paint, like cloudy in appearance. Stenciling requires little paint, making it vintage requires even less. You can even leave some areas not painted in, as it the paint wore away.
Sponging is another option to experiment with.
The beach scene is lookin’ cute.
Time to write BEACH using the Cargo Font stencil set.
