When I see gorgeously tacky gem sweaters, like the bedazzling beauties that glam grannies wear,  one gal comes to mind – Leslie Hall. Leslie is simply high fashion in my book, rocking Tootsie style glasses, some fitted gold lame numbers and, of course, her signature gem sweaters.

Well, I emailed Leslie to be a guest artist in Stencil Style 101 to show how to make a gem sweater, and in this case, incorporating one of our stencils. She was all aboard! Check out our model Lucy channeling the gem sweater spirit of Leslie.

The sweater was made using fabric glue, a bag of gems, our chevron stencil and a vintage sweater. The full how to is in Stencil Style 101.

Stencil 201 is an eBook!



So much news to report. Aside from Stencil Style 101‘s imminent arrival, we’re tiptoeing into the realm of eBooks with Stencil 201. Sure, eBooks, digital, Kindle, Nook, and iPad are all we’ve heard in the last few years, so luckily our publisher was game to give it a whirl. Let us know what you think! Stencil 201, featuring our friends Erica Domesek of P.S. – I made this and embroiderer Jenny Hart, among others, is available on Kindle and iBooks. I can’t tell you how excited I am to say I have a new apparel based book coming out! Stencil Style 101 presents a whole new take on DIY fashion! I’ve created 20 stencils perfect for customizing clothing and accessories. Patterns like argyle, houndstooth, chevron, leopard print, and polka dots pair with iconic images such as feathers, buttons, records, and stars in endless combinations for personalized clothing that will make heads turn. The book includes 25 step-by-step projects for stenciling on leather handbags, sneakers, wool coats, bike helmets, bangles, and so much more! Fashion’s Night IN

Fashion Night Out

It’s that fun, sparkley time again, Fashion’s Night Out!

Last year I went to several events, shopped, drank, looked at great clothes, all that fun NY nightlife fashion fun. This year I have done a little early shopping and will be doing more of a Fashion’s Night IN, creating a lot of garments and accessories for my next upcoming book Stencil Style. Some things I will be using are Stained by Sharpie Fabric Markers, Martha Stewart Fine Glitter, Clorox Bleach Pens, and my own Stencil1 Sprayers.  Not just t-shirts this time, I’m customizing some huge bangles, a few women’s dress jackets, and men’s ties among other things. Once I get rolling, it tends to become a snowball effect and I want to experiment and see what comes of it. Adding some spray effects to wood bangles, trying combining Martha’s glitter and glass beads for new colors and textures, just getting into it!
