Today I received my author’s first run edition of our new book Stencil101! Having worked on this for a year and to now finally see the actual physical end-product, I must say I think everyone will love this book! Chronicle did an amazing job on my book and with 25 stencils inside, I can’t wait to see what amazing things you create with it too! Enjoy!
Over the past five years, START SOMA has featured some pretty amazing artists in their series of PAINTED ROOMS art shows at the HOTEL DES ARTS in San Francisco.
So we are VERY excited to announce being a part of NEW ART 08 – their first group show at the ART HOTEL in several years to focus exclusively on EMERGING ARTISTS! Craft Guru Elaine will be running an art room in the hotel as well! Want an Obama t-shirt? Bring a shirt and she’ll stencil it !

I visited Elaine when I was in San Francisco last month to make this video tutorial. We had fun showing how you can make three items with one stencil for under $40!

On a side note, I rented a ZipCar to get to Elaine’s and the gas station I picked the car up from had this hand-made sign in the lot MADE USING MY STENCILS! This was unbelievable. 
The guys who work there are all into Low-riders and tricked out cars so they made it. We spoke for like 45 minutes about antique cars. I was late for Elaine but had a blast with them!
I had to spread the word by making this shirt today using our new Obama stencil and our Sprayers. I bought a dyed shirt from American Apparel and used our Blue and Purple Stencil1 Sprayers to give it a nice gradient look. For 10 bucks why not make your own too?! I was on a lunchbreak from a consulting job in midtown Manhattan one afternoon when this guy walked by wearing this awesome hoodie with our turntable stencil repeated on it. I had to ask “where did you get that?” and he told me his girlfriend made it for him. How nice, That made my day!
