We’re really excited to share our Stencil1 stencil line in collaboration with PLAID. We recently released a video showing how to stencil artist wood panels using our new designs and multi-surface paint. These wood panels are extremely graphic, colorful and a great way to decorate an empty wall in your home.

Please check out our video to learn how to make this piece at home or follow these step-by-step directions

For this project you’ll need Swallow stencil set, stencil brushes, multi-surface paint, tape and wood panels.

Step 1: Center the pattern, which is your first layer, on your wood panel. Using a small amount of paint and a stencil brush, paint the layer on. Remember that stenciling is a dry-brush technique. This means you are using very little paint and adding more layers if you want a darker tone.  You can paint in a circular motion or by dabbing the brush up and down.

Step 2: Allow your first layer to dry—you can use a blow dryer to speed up the process. Once it is dry, place the silhouette of the sparrow on the panel; this is your second layer. You can secure the stencil with tape if you want to get very crisp edges.

Step 3: Once the second layer is dry, you are ready to stencil the detail, which is your last layer. Make sure to use a dry-brush technique.

Step 4: You can make one of these panels or a set of them. Making a set will create a dramatic pop of design! Get creative, have fun and send us pictures of where you hang them up!

Stencil1 customer, Adele, and her godchild, Yalexis, sent us these awesome shots of their holiday projects! Using our Holiday Pack stencil set (on sale right now!) they made some incredible coasters, ornaments, christmas cards, and even a tree skirt!

Adele was lucky to have Yalexis’ help, who had a ‘swirl’ technique down to make sure she got the entire stencil.

“We kept reminding each other, it doesn’t have to be perfect because no two snowflakes are the same-and of course, it would perfect however it came out!”

We think you guys did an amazing job! Check out their final products and tell us what you think! Share your pictures with us @stencil1

Bye-bye warm weather and hello snow and winter jackets! Wow is it chilly outside! And you know what cold weather means? It’s time to grab that blanket and cuddle up next to your favorite person (or pet!) with a cup of your favorite hot drink!

Try making these Stencil1 mason jars for your cup of peppermint hot chocolate or spiked apple cider. This is what you’ll need:

Mason Jars

Folk-Art Multipurpose Paint

Stenciling Brushes

Holiday-Pack Stencil

Nesting Dolls Stencil

Blossom Stencil

Checks and Dots Stencil

We started by choosing colors for each jar, don’t be afraid to be creative—who doesn’t love purple snowflakes?

Next, we secured the stencil to the Mason jar, if you’re nervous about it moving around, you can use tape to hold it in place.

Use the brushes to dab the paint on. The amount of paint you use depends on the look you want. If you want a cleaner look, use very little paint. If you want something with more texture and don’t mind it being a little messy, use more paint. The paint dries pretty fast but you can use a hairdryer to speed it up even more!

Use as many stencil combinations as you’d like. Share your wacky color palettes and your finished products @stencil1.

We’re really excited to announce that Stencil1 will be part of Art Basel 2013! We will be hosting an Artist Printmaking workshop at the Soho Beach House in Miami on December 6.

I am really looking forward to sharing a cocktail with all of the attendees while we create fun and unique art! We will have colorful picnic tables set up with all the art supplies needed to create mess-free, one of a kind pieces that the makers can take home with them as a souvenir from their stay at the hotel.

The Stencil1 creative artist crew and I will provide guidance to guests in helping them get creative and become the artist. We will use stencils, inkpads, and rubber stamps to make artist’s prints during this intimate 3-hour event. We are especially excited to be working with materials provided by Plaid, Clearsnap, and Art Alternatives.

We will make sure to take many pictures to share with you as soon as we’re back in Brooklyn!
