Often times when using stencils, we may be trapped into thinking we need a specific stencil to create a certain idea. Stencils are shapes that allow you to make your art faster, not as a crutch to be creative. Therefore, today’s art project focuses on combining separate stencils to make something new! We are making a campfire scene using three different stencils.
Stenciling is not limited to walls or clothes. For our painting surface, we used a wood slab purchased at a craft store – It fit well with our camp theme!
We start by adding blue, navy, and black paint to our log to create an evening sky. Less blending will give your sky more dimension
Now paint the lower area, the ground, with darker colors such as brown and black. You now have a horizon line.
Make sure to layer the black properly and evenly. The base is done!
We are using stencils from our CAMP set. Cut out the campfire and the tent stencils for this scene
Figure out the placement.
We painted the tent brown but realized it actually doesn’t show up too well in person, so we decided to let the paint dry and go over it in yellow.
Much better!
We used burnt sienna and white for the logs, yellow and orange for the fire.
Finish off by adding some dots of various sizes to your painting. You can use a fine soft brush or even the top of a brush for a hard surface.
