“Would The World be a Better Place?” Animals in Vintage Frames Journal Spread

“If the shoe was on the other hoof, would the world be a better place?”. This journal spread was inspired by the Rococo Frame Stencil. I immediately envisioned framed animals hanging on a vintage wallpaper background.

I started by using the Solid Scallop Stencil. I traced the pattern in pencil on a piece of scrapbook paper from Tim Holtz and cut out all the scallops. I next painted the journal pages in PaperArtsy Sand Fresco Finish Paint and used 3 strips of washi tape in a blush and gold flower pattern to start the “wallpaper pattern. I added a cracked stamp from FrancePappilion over the whole background using Archival Coffee Ink from Ranger.

After covering the washi with clear gesso, I placed the Damask small stencil over the washi stripes and sponged PaperArtsy Caramel paint through the pattern onto the pages.

I arranged the scallops onto the pages and decided they needed a bit more decoration so I mixed some Amethyst PaperArtsy paint into some Hard Molding Paste from Golden to color and spread through the Quatrefoil Stencil over the scallops individually on a craft mat. I added some Vintage Beeswax Baked Texture Powder from SethApter around the edges of the scallops to make them feel flocked and three dimensional.

I grabbed 2 vintage dictionary pages and placed the Rococo Frame Stencil on top and sponged WOW Clear Embossing Ink through. I sprinkled WOW Crusty Copper Embossing Powder over the stenciled frame design and heat set. I painted chrome Mirror Paint onto the field of the frame and distressed with a small dot stamp to provide an antique mirror effect. I fussy cut some amazing illustrations on a piece of decorative wrapping paper (I think purchased from the Paper Source) and made slits on the side of the mirrors to slide the animals in.

I glued all the elements down with a UHU glue stick and some Regular Gel Matte from Golden. These pages finished with a typewritten quote and some splatters of Sargasso Paint from PaperArtsy along with some Desert Baked Velvet Embossing Powder to anchor the Framed Elephant and Tiger to the outer edges.

Hoping we can all start taking better care of our planet and all the animals it inhabits 🙂
